After growing up trapped in a futuristic workhouse where children are labourers, Stella has been chosen to live with the royal family for one year. Stella wants to hate the palace, yet she finds herself infatuated with the royal paradise with each passing day. And not only of her surroundings, but of the poster-boy prince, and the doting queen, too.
But Stella’s new life is threatened when she learns from an unexpected ally that infamous super-humans with magical powers seek revenge on the Crown for a four-hundred year vendetta, and that children are disappearing from their beds, caught in the King’s terrible game of ‘reaping’. Stella is torn between saving others from the life she’d had before the palace and the possibility to call the palace her home.
Before she can expose the King, Stella must find solid proof of these inhumane crimes by using her practical skills she’s been raised with and the help of a rebellious royal lady who wants to end the King’s reign before the mystery consumes her, and before she learns that sometimes, our monsters are closer than we think.
